The National Capital Authority Board has approved funding for procurement of a commemoration of Marion Mahony Griffin and Walter Burley Griffin. The commemoration will recognise the contribution the two architects made to the design of Canberra - the national capital. It will also acknowledge the broader contribution of the Griffins to city planning, architecture, and landscape design.

In keeping with the NCA’s objective to address the underrepresentation of women in commemorative works on the National Estate, a concerted effort will be made to ensure both Marion and Walter are recognised equally for the contribution they made to their professional partnership, and both are given equal prominence in the commemoration.

An advisory panel has been established to provide specialist knowledge and guidance to the project.

In this early stage of the project, the advisory panel is working with the NCA to develop a concept for the commemoration, including looking at options for a location and discussions around the nature of the work.

Once a concept has been developed, it will go out for public consultation.
