The National Capital Authority (NCA) provides notice of its intention to progress administrative arrangements to formally close Dorothy Tangney Place, in Parkes, Canberra.
Practical use of Dorothy Tangney Place as a road ceased on 17 July 2023 with the start of construction on the John Gorton Campus Car Park, which traverses the road. Public access to surrounding areas is maintained through Kings Avenue, King Edward Terrace, Parkes Place East and King George Terrace.
The formal closure of a road is a requirement of the Australian Capital Territory National Land (Unleased) Ordinance 2022 and will support a number of administrative steps, including the revision of block arrangements in planning documentation so that the John Gorton Campus Car Park sits on a single block of land.
The John Gorton Car Park Campus will include a car park structure with 1,070 car parks and a childcare centre and outdoor play area. It is an enabling project for the National Security Office Precinct and will replace parking where the new precinct is to be built in Barton opposite the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
A copy of the registered formal notice is available on the Federal Register of Legislation or for download further below.
