The National Capital Authority (NCA) is calling for public feedback on proposed changes to the National Capital Plan to simplify planning approvals for the Monaro Highway and support the future availability of much-needed industrial land.
National Capital Plan Draft Amendment 96 – Monaro Highway and Hume Industrial Estate will fast-track the critical Monaro Highway Upgrade Program by removing the need for multiple planning approvals across jurisdictions.
The amendment reflects the broader commitment of the NCA, on behalf of the Australian Government, and the ACT Government to work together to streamline planning approvals.
The Monaro Highway Upgrade Program, a joint initiative of the Australian and ACT Governments, will reduce congestion and travel times and improve the reliability of this vital road corridor. It will also increase the productivity of freight movements, particularly freight moving between New South Wales and the ACT.
National Capital Plan Draft Amendment 96 – Monaro Highway and Hume Industrial Estate will also contribute to the supply of much-needed industrial land in the ACT through an expansion of the Hume Industrial Estate.
This will be achieved by altering the land use policy for a parcel of land of around 37 hectares at the southern edge of the Hume Industrial Estate to ‘Urban Areas’.
