This project was completed in early 2026.
The previous plantation along Commonwealth Park bordering Parkes Way contained several weed plants including Cotoneaster glaucophyllus. This project replaced these with Callistemon viminalis ‘Slim’ Red Bottlebrush. In addition, a fence was installed along the newly planted area as a safety measure to prevent pedestrian access from Commonwealth Park onto Parkes Way.
More than 1,000 Callistemons were planted in the area along both sides of the new fence. The removal of the weed plantings not only allowed for these plantings but also provided an opportunity to recreate the original garden beds in this area.
