Major traffic changes will be in place from early January 2026 to support essential upgrades being delivered as part of the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge Renewal Project.
The northbound side of Commonwealth Avenue Bridge will close to all road and shared path users from Thursday 8 January 2026 for approximately 12 months (weather permitting).
The southbound side of the bridge will accommodate both directions of traffic and shared path users.
Dates of authorisation:
Wednesday 7 January 2026 – Friday 12 March 2027
Note: The northbound side of Commonwealth Avenue Bridge is anticipated to fully close to traffic on Thursday 8 January 2026 and reopen to traffic by the end of December 2026 (weather permitting). Additional time is provided for contingency purposes.

Speed limits will be reduced to 40km/h through the work zone.

Commonwealth Avenue Bridge (northbound) from the Flynn Drive on-ramp to Albert Street.
Flynn Drive northbound on-ramp to Commonwealth Avenue Bridge (will be open to Transport Canberra buses only)
