The expansion of the AWM is obscene. It is an insult to the families of all veterans who have committed suicide due to the traumas suffered during their service, and the indifference of the Department of Veterans Affairs. It is an insult to the nation coming at a time when a significant war crimes investigation is underway. It is an insult to all the people who are enduring austerity and job losses. Finally, it is an insult to the people of Afghanistan whose country our military has helped to further destroy in the name of ‘foreign policy’ and the US alliance. This expansion of the AWM should not be taking place.

Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge the Ngunnawal people as traditional custodians of the ACT and recognise any other people or families with connection to the lands of the ACT and region.

We acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.
