As I understand current plans, post-Vietnam Veterans are represented in an area 17 x 19 square metres, or less than 4% of the gallery space. One of the primary aims of the Project is to expand the exhibit area to properly tell the stories of Australian military and police Veterans who have served in the ADF post-Vietnam. There is a gap in our military history of 50 years, and it will show the great diversity of their work, which spans across operations of peacekeeping since 1947, humanitarian aid, disaster relief and to tell the story of Australia’s longest war.
Along with many ex-Services friends and associations, I urge the War Memorial to ensure that sufficient space is made available to properly record this significant contribution to Australian military history.
