I like to think that whenever somebody is awarded a Public Service Medal they’ll continue to uphold the values and ethics their award was based on.
So why didn’t the AWM’s Director choose to resign when he knew the expansion project was going to be a wanton waste of precious funds which could be used for worthy causes (eg. assisting PTSD victims) and an environmental and cultural travesty?
He must realise by now that his shameless, disingenuous defence of the obviously flawed “Early Works” consultation process is a blight on his career as it was a classic example of shutting the gate after the horse had bolted.
I also feel the same way about the NCA Chief’s “Major Works” consultation process and the ACT Excellence in Women’s Leadership award she received in 2017.
The fact that, despite receiving advice from so-called expert consultants who’ve been highly paid for their knowledge and expertise, these two executives have made such a mess of the process. “Yes Minister” indeed. (“What a joke”, letter published in "The Canberra Times" August 30, 2021, refers).
If, however, the Morrison LNP Coalition government demanded that the AWM’s expansion must go ahead regardless of any compelling objections from heritage experts, historians and respected members of the public, and if the AWM’s Director and NCA’s Chief didn’t discover until it was too late that this frivolous project’s main purpose might be the government’s attempt to improve their re-election chances by currying favour with those who’ve served in past conflicts, I humbly ask them to disregard my comments, as they’ve been ambushed into supporting this project.
