Draft Heritage Management Plan - Surveyors Hut

The Surveyor’s Hut is the only visible remnant structure of the Federal Survey Camp from 1910-1912 and is important as evidence of the vital work surveyors carried out in identifying the site for the national capital, and in surveying what became the central city area. 
The Hut was utilised for the storage of maps and plans developed by the surveyors, the concrete structure being weather and fireproof. 

The Hut has been included on the Commonwealth Heritage List since 2004. 

Under section 341X(3) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, the National Capital Authority (NCA), welcomes comments on the draft Heritage Management Plans from members of the public, Indigenous People with rights and interests to the place, key stakeholders and community groups by 5.00pm, Monday 7 September 2026.
