This is a grassed area between Questacon and the National Portrait Gallery. It faces King Edward Terrace and adjoins Reconciliation Place. A venue available for public and private functions, it is level, with accessible paths leading to the grass. There is parking nearby and buses regularly run along King Edward Terrace.
Named after Australia’s first colonial Presbyterian minister - an outspoken, strongly opinionated Scotsman who spent his life in service of the Australian colonies, both as a minister and in politics.
His words in print and in his speeches often saw him in court (and gaoled twice) for libel or slander. He supported and assisted thousands of the poor and homeless through immigration and was a fierce critic of the treatment of Aboriginal people.
