Project overview

The Lake Burley Griffin bridge-to-bridge route is one of Canberra’s most popular active travel corridors enjoyed daily by commuters, walkers, runners, cyclists, dog walkers and more.

A series of improvements are being delivered around the Central Basin to make it easier, safer and more intuitive for everyone to move through the area.

These works will enhance how people navigate and share the path network and will include refreshed and new signage, improved line marking and path decals, as well as better promoting the separated pedestrian and cyclist sections in key locations.

Together these improvements will support a safer and more enjoyable experience for all users of the Lake Burley Griffin path network.

Key features

  • Remove old/faded signage and path symbols and replace with new.
  • Encourage a ‘Pedestrian Only’ route between Rond Terrace and Kings Avenue Bridge.
  • Additional ‘Slow’ path symbols in high-traffic shared locations.

Project status

Work commenced in March 2026 focusing on replacing shared path signage. The remaining improvements will be rolled out from late July 2026 and are expected to take approximately 2 months (weather permitting) to implement.
