The following formal submission have been made public
Submitter: John DaltonNew Southern Entrance
I strongly oppose the excessive re-development of the Australian War Memorial.
There has not been proper national debate about it, it will do nothing to improve veterans’ lives, and it will further glorify and promote wrong-headed war.
Our Australian War Memorial should be a place of reflection and commemoration, not a stage for major arms dealers and other merchants of death to act as 'donors' and collaborate with posturing politicians who abrogate their duties as the peoples representatives by sending our nation's youth to "fight for freedom" for some godless power to rain death and destruction on hapless nationalists and their civilians
The Principal Objective One of the NCP states that “Substantial works of architecture, engineering and landscape within the Territory should be designed to contribute positively to the overall composition, symbolism and dignity of the National Capital.”
Turning the sacred nature of the Australian War Memorial into a 'DisneyLand' display of deathly armaments is in direct contradiction of the NCP Objective One. It will subvert the very heart and soul of this most important national memorial and the overall composition, symbolism and dignity of the National Capital.
On this 20th anniversary of 9/11 and all that followed including American vengeance, torture, hubris and loss of values that has led to Trump, a dangerously polarised polity, unnecessary pandemic fatalities, and Taliban victory in Afghanistan, the degraded values of some in our special forces points to where this "re-development" is likely to lead us. Your posterity will remember such a grave mistake! Don't do it! For Heaven's Sake!
