The following formal submission have been made public
Submitter: William AitkenNew Southern Entrance
An overall investment of $540million plus for these redevelopments is outrageous, given the needs of people throughout the country who are suffering deprivation due to job losses and Covid.
Aside from this, should we be glorifying war given the ongoing investigations into war crimes by our military in Afghanistan and our appalling record of failing to provide refuge after the fall of Kabul to all of those who had helped us throughout this war.
The money ceded to this egoistic exercise should be re-directed to give assistance to returned soldiers and personnel suffering PTSD and mental conditions which have led many to self harm, drug addiction, alcoholism and suicide.
At a time when inappropriate statues such as that of Robert E. Lee are being dismantled throughout the world, why are we instituting a bloated building program to glorify war and besmirch those Australians who gave of their lives for values that had nothing to do with bricks and mortar memories?
A much wider open and public consultation with as much information as possible, should be carried out with as many Australians as possible before this program further proceeds
