I notice there is no reference to the work the Bomb Disposal - RAAF- a very small group of men .did in Darwin . Stationed at the RAAF Airport . Base The area covered Batchelor and further south in the Northern Territory .
The chaps would work , two together , the chap digging the bomb out to defuse it would have to speak to the other chap ( standing a distance away) all the time telling him what he was doing. This was a safety measure , if the bomb exploded, the chap would be killed so the other chap -if he lived- would know the enemy had altered something - like reverse thread on the fuse. so others would be aware.
