For many years I have been proud to visit the Australian War Memorial as a place of remembrance and a way to access the stories of our service people. It was then a place of the greatest dignity. Since the contributions of arms traders have taken over, it has degenerated into a military hardware theme park. The National Capital Authority has responsibility under the National Capital Plan to ensure that "substantial works of architecture and landscape within the Territory should be designed to contribute positively to the overall composition, symbolism and dignity of the National Capital." I believe that the current extensions conform to none of these.
