Draft Heritage Management Plan - King George V Memorial

The King George V Memorial was completed in 1953 and was centred on the Land Axis in front of the Provisional (Old) Parliament House, adjacent to the site of the existing Aboriginal Tent Embassy. The Memorial was relocated to its current location on the west side of the land axis in 1968. As an example of Inter-War Art Deco architecture, the Memorial reflects the importance of the Australian Head of State and commemorates King George V who was the Monarch at the time of the opening of (Old) Parliament House.

Draft Heritage Management Plan - Surveyors Hut

The Surveyor’s Hut is the only visible remnant structure of the Federal Survey Camp from 1910-1912 and is important as evidence of the vital work surveyors carried out in identifying the site for the national capital, and in surveying what became the central city area.
The Hut was utilised for the storage of maps and plans developed by the surveyors, the concrete structure being weather and fireproof.

Amendment 102 - Hume Circle Precinct

3 August 2026

Draft Amendment 102 has been approved.

A copy of Amendment 102 can be found via the link below.

Amendment 102 - Hume Circle Precinct | National Capital Authority

Amendment 102 reflects the stated objectives for this precinct, providing the opportunity for high quality urban renewal in parts of the precinct while reinstating lost elements of the original Griffin intent.   Amendment 102 varies the National Capital Plan by bringing the Hume Circle Precinct within ‘Designated Areas’ and establishing the planning framework against which future development proposals may be considered and assessed.

In response to community comments, Amendment 102 reflect changes that clarify land use and building heights limits across the precinct. The amendment has incorporated more detail on the principles and expectations of high-quality urban design, consistent with other precinct codes in the National Capital Plan, to provide certainty for developers and community and a framework against which future proposals will be assessed.

The amendment still requires further detailed planning and design work, specific to a development proposal, to be submitted for NCA approval and public consultation prior to any application for works approval.
