The National Capital Authority recently won the Gold Award for the Best Festival and Event at the Australian Tourism Awards for the 2023 Lights on the Lake.

The Australian Tourism Awards are the industry’s most prestigious accolades, with national winners crowned from among state and territory’s Gold Tourism Award winners.

‘Lights on the Lake was a spectacular experience that saw huge arcs of colour light up the sky over Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin to tell the story of ancient and contemporary Australia,’ Acting Chief Executive Hamid Heydarian said.

A free community event made possible through the support of the National Australia Day Council, Lights on the Lake also showcased local food, drinks and crafts through night markets.

‘It was wonderful to see so many Canberrans and visitors, families and friends, gather on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin as part of their Australia Day celebrations and embrace so generously the show’s themes of reflect, respect and celebrate,’ said Mr Heydarian.

‘Lights on the Lake demonstrated the National Capital Authority’s commitment to activate the heart of Canberra to make it a great place to live and visit, and a National Capital of which all Australians can be proud.

“Taking out the Gold Award for the Best Festival and Event at the Australian Tourism Awards is testament to our small and dedicated team,” Mr Heydarian said.
